How Selection Works

Applications are reviewed by a 3-member curation panel
Selection is based on craft, originality, and stage presence
Only 44 artists will be selected for Season III

Craft & language - 40%
Performance viability (spoken form) - 25%
Originality & voice - 20%
Fit with theme & program balance - 15%

Performer Support & Rehearsals

Rehearsal day (mandatory): full tech check and stage walkthrough.
Mentor coaching: one 30-minute group mentor session provided to every selected poet.
Backstage host: each cohort receives an assigned backstage host to manage call times, flow, and quick needs on the day.

Submission & Technical Notes

Video requirement: applicants must upload a single video (up to 135 seconds) per the application instructions (intro → explanation of intent → short recitation).
Formats accepted: MP4 / MOV; max file size as specified on the form.
Portfolio links: optional, but but recommended.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Q1. Do I pay to apply?

No. Application is free. A confirmation security is required only if you are selected to secure your performance slot.

Q2. What is the confirmation security?

Selected artists are required to submit a one-time confirmation security to secure their slot. This amount contributes toward artist support, production facilitation, and media coverage associated with Bardish Season III.

Q3. What if I’m unable to confirm after selection?

If confirmation is not completed within 72 hours, the slot may be reassigned to the next shortlisted artist.

Q4. Do performers receive honorariums?

Honorariums are reserved for invited guest artists.
Standard selected performers participate as part of the curated lineup.

Q5. Can I read from my phone on stage?

No. Phones are not permitted on stage.
Artists are expected to perform with preparation; printed notes may be used if necessary.

Q6. Are performances recorded and shared?

Yes. Performances are filmed and edited.
Selected artists receive their professional content as outlined, and curated highlights may be published across JiveSpring platforms.
Extended or private-use versions are available upon request.
